I started juicing about 2 years ago and not always on a regular basis until I realized how good I felt drinking green juices regularly. When I started, I wanted to do a cleanse and I did it for 6 days drinking multiple serving of green juices a day. I lost weight but I realized that it was not really what I wanted to do again.
My philosophy regarding juicing is to view it as a regular part of my diet.
I feel more the benefit of juicing if I have at least 5 green juices/week in the morning when I wake up before eating breakfast or in replacement of breakfast. I feel energized when I drink a green juice first in the morning and good to go exercise. I have a protein meal a little later.
It is very important to Focus on Green Juice, not Fruit Juice. If your juice contains too many fruits, it will be both higher in calories and sugar (fructose). You can add in an apple, a kiwi, or a handful of berries to give your juice flavor, but the bulk of it should come from organic, green veggies – spinach, celery, kale, Swiss chard, cucumber etc.
I like to add one half to a whole lemon for every quart of juice. You can actually juice the skin if you want to avoid the hassle of peeling.
2 or 3 times a week, I like Fresh ginger: This is an excellent addition if you enjoy the taste. It gives your juice a little "kick"!
I try as much as possible to use organic vegetables, and drinking it shortly after I make it. Vegetable juice is highly perishable so it's best to drink all of your juice immediately.
Some benefits of juicing:
-It promotes alkalinity: We live in an acidic world. Processed food, cooked foods, and animal-based foods all leave an acidic ash in our bodies. It’s the one reason the raw food diet has become so popular: it promotes alkalinity, which means less inflammation An alkaline body keeps you feeling flexible, energized, and balanced, with a striking sense of calm at the same time.
-It helps your body to absorb nutrients from leafy greens and veggies easier than it does when you chew them. Your body has to break down food to obtain nutrients, but with green juice, all the nutrients are immediately absorbed into the bloodstream so you benefit right away.
- It boosts immunity and provides an extra layer of protection to cells in the body.
- It can help you to loose weight: You can easily replace one meal a day with juice.
Green juice has its benefits, but consistently eating your greens (and other colors) whole, in the right amounts each day, offers plenty of rewards…especially for the fiber. I still eat raw and cooked vegetables as much as possible. But at least when I know I don’t have a lot of time to cook, drinking a glass of fresh green juice make me feel good!
Also we are all different when it comes to food, digestion, taste…
I encourage you to try different combinations of vegetables and you will judge for yourself what you like the best. Try to diversify and dare to add new ones…preferentially one at a time!
Love and Light!
